A walk in the park

Last Saturday we decided to go over to Great Falls (national park) and take Paisley for some walking/hiking. It was the first really gorgeous Saturday of the season and apparently everyone else in the metro area had the same idea! So we went to Riverbend park which "right next door" and walked the 1+ mile? to Great Falls. We just got a quick peek at the falls because then we had to go turn around so we could get home in time to get read for a charity ball we went to that night (appearing in my next post!). We love taking Paisley out with us- we all get exercise and she has a blast exploring new scenery and swimming.

The Caldwell "ladies" :)

Paisley was fearless- jumping up on the ledge to get a better look at the falls!

Buy me some Peanuts and Crackerjacks...

And chicken fingers, hot dogs, fries and beer. Just a few of the treats we had when we went to see the Nationals play the Phillies at Nats Stadium in DC on April 13th. We went with our friends Drew and Regina who we know from church (and who are VERY recently engaged-YEAH!). Drew is from South Jersey, so we have bonded over our love (and frustration) of Philadelphia sports, especially this past football season.

It was the Nats home opener and we're proud to say they were beaten by the Phils. Actually everyone has beaten the Nats but that's besides the point. You can't really tell from the pictures but the weather was great! The day was marred a bit because this was the game that Harry Kallis died in the press box right beforehand. Very sad but apparently the game must go on!

Drew and Regina (can you see her new ring?! Oh in case you were wondering- that didn't happen at the game.)

All four of us!

Birthday Dinner

Since my birthday fell on Easter AND a day that Charlie had to work, we planned to go out to dinner to celebrate that following Wednesday, April 15th. I choose a restaurant in Leesburg, VA called Lightfoot that we had never been too before but I had researched it and it sounded delicious. It was. The restaurant is in an old bank building and the architecture is just beautiful. But lets be real: we came for the food not the architecture. Well, we were not disappointed. Lightfoot is the kind of restaurant that serves their food in such a way that it's so pretty that you almost don't want to eat it. Almost. I love places that take time to present the food this way. I know this probably makes me a food snob but...I don't care. I love a good diner too but this was my birthday, folks. Which means: big doings. At least in my world. :)
So yes, I DID take pictures of the food. Because it was so pretty. It's a fancy restaurant but I have no shame. Well, I at least waited until the waiter left before I snapped a few shots. Didn't want to look like a total freak.

The appetizer we had- fried green tomatoes (with shrimp on top)

This was my meal- salmon with artichoke gratin and crab meat on top. Oh. My.

The building the restaurant is located in

Gotta get a picture of us. This is right before we drove home, got in our pjs, watched tv and went bed early. I know. We're WILD.

Sunday: Twice as Nice

Sunday, April 12th was a doubly special day for us as we celebrated both Jesus' resurrection and my 26th birthday. Charlie had to work till 5am the night before and then had to go back to work later in the evening on the 12th so we're doing my birthday dinner on Wednesday instead. On Saturday night, I went out with some of my girlfriends from small group to the Melting Pot (a fondue restaurant in our area) for dessert. So much fun and very yummy!

Our friends from our small group Kristin and Ben, invited to Kristin's sister's place for Easter dinner with her family. So our day consisted of the 7:30am church service, 5 hours of sleep for Charlie (a little nap for me), yummy dinner with Kristin's fam, then Charlie unexpectedly getting called back to work after dinner. I was very disappointed that hubs had to go back to work but knew it was out of his control. Not everything can go as planned, MUCH to my dismay. Pictures below:

Charlie is trying to be excited even though he's really sleepy!

(I would just like to point out normal I look in this picture!)

This picture exists due to a quote from Charlie: "Smooth and Dreamy. That's how I'm usually described". Chuckle. Chuckle. Snort. Snort.
